欢乐生肖At The Ladies' College we strive to ensure that every student reaches their full potential both academically and personally. We work alongside our students to identify barriers and support them in exploring solutions and strategies that meet their needs.
The Learning Support Department was formally established in 2016 in order to meet the needs of those students that experience difficulties in their learning, either short or long term, across both Melrose and Ladies' College.
The Learning Support Department is headed by Mrs Nicola Ingrouille. Nicola is a qualified Maths teacher who has specialised in School Inclusion and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities for over several years.
Individual, paired and small group sessions are offered in English and Mathematics. These take place before school, during assembly and in class time. A wide variety of teaching techniques are implemented, and careful planning ensures the sessions are tailored to meet the needs of the individuals. Effective and sophisticated learning programmes are also used with an example being 'Dynamo Maths'; a computer based, interactive Maths programme that devises individual targets for each student based on their current skill level. The students then work through a series of activities and games to enhance their weaker areas in Maths, whilst having fun.
Nicola is supported by Mrs Kate Lowe, a highly experienced and enthusiastic Junior department learning support assistant who has specialised in literacy support and intervention since 2008. Kate worked for the Literacy Support and Intervention Service prior to working at Melrose
欢乐生肖Individual and small group tutorials are available to support students that require additional support. The tutorials take place on a weekly basis; in a student’s independent study period, at lunchtime or after school. The content of tutorials depends upon the particular area(s) of need. A discrete and individual programme of study is created to ensure progress is made in the correct areas of need. This may include strategies to aid the growth of a dyslexic learner, enhance study skills, revision techniques and organisation, improve spelling, develop written work extended writing and critical thinking, and supporting working memory difficulties.
欢乐生肖Nicola is supported by Mr David Herschel, a highly experienced learning support teacher and teacher of Science.
All students, who receive regular support, will have a Student Learning Passport; a personalised set of targets and strategies that are created together by the Learning Support teacher, the student and parents and then shared with relevant teaching staff to ensure that effective strategies for teaching and learning are used across all subjects. These are reviewed twice a year, in conjunction with staff and parents.
Learning support incurs an additional charge, which is charged termly according to the support required and added to the usual billing cycle.
If you feel your child would benefit from additional support, or you would like further information, please contact the Head of Learning Support by email email@example.com.
